My Goal for 2011.. to be Overweight!!

I have been reading about every one's "word" or goals for the new year..
and like many of you, I am glad that I do not have to disappoint myself with failure by saying "this will be the year I LOSE WEIGHT"
Ha! I have a jump on that one..
But being the control freak that I am (most times), I still need goals..
I am just hard wired that way..
I started to look at some of the recent data for gastric band
I was curious because as I enter my second year being banded..
I wanted to be sure my goal was realistic with data (realizing that not all results are typical..)
you know that CYA they always have in diet commercials.

So here are some stats from recent research for gastric band patients:
Empirically, patients typically lose 50-60% of their excess weight (meaning delta from current to goal weight) over 5 years.

In the first year after your weight loss surgery, losing 2-3 pounds per week is possible, but 1 pound per     week is more likely (Note: I barely hit the 1 pound per week target).

At the three year mark, patients typically lose 62% + - 20.9% of their excess weight.

So to achieve my goal of being overweight, I will need to lose 24 pounds this year.
I know that that does not sound like very much (actually 2 lbs a month), but believe me  my history does not have my WL falling within any statistical predictions.. I am a slow loser.
I am hoping that the staying power of my latest fill will support that 2 lb a month loss.
We will see.. if I achieve this in 2011, I can then set a goal of a normal BMI in 2012..

MY BMI Interpretation:
< 18.5 = Underweight
18.5 - 24.9 = Normal
25.0 - 29.9 = Overweight
30.0 - 34.9 = Obesity (Class I)
35.0 - 39.9 = Obesity (Class II)
40.0+ = Extreme Obesity (Class III)

  1. That's a good goal Barbara! I think you can do it. I barely squeaked into overweight last year - it was good.
I love to see you blogging. :)

  3. This is a great goal. I know you can do it. Setting goals that are actually attainable is important. I think most of us have spent our lives making these crazy unrealistic weight loss goals (pre-band). In the end we always failed, and not only did we fail, we probably gained weight. I'm so glad to see people posting realistic goals.

    Happy New Year!

  6. First, I want to say I'm so glad you're back to blogging. I'm happy things are getting better with your DH. I'm a slow loser too - I'm with you and I appreciate you also blogging what your green zone felt like for you. It helps me to realize that I'm def not there. I lost 2 lbs last week and it was a lot of resisting eating when I wanted to, a lot of feeling hunger (I'm hungry right now actually) and a lot of just hard work. So thanks for that and I'm glad you hear you're consistently losing! That's AWESOME!

  7. Excellent goal! Love this, so much better than a certain number on the scale. I'm still "obese" according to BMI...

  8. Great goal Barbara! I too am a very slow loser. I think my average is now hovering around 1 lb a week! But, the alternative is that without the band, i could have gained a lb a week! Yikes!

  10. Great goal! Good to see you posting again. At least you made the 1 lb per week weight loss. a little less than 3 months to go til the one year bandiversary and I'm still sitting at a measley 26 gone, so I understand the slow losing! Keep up the great work and I am sure you'll kick butt this year!
