Use the Good Crystal...

I had to go to the china cabinet today to get a dish I wanted to use...
And then it hit me...

During all the  years of my marriage, we had our lovely Waterford crystal displayed for all to see, but seldom used.

It moved me terribly.. what the F was I saving the crystal for..why did we not use it for us?
Why did we have it if we weren't going to use it, enjoy it.. and now it sits and collects dust, only handled for a holiday dinner, or the biannual cleaning..pffft!

So I grabbed one of the crystal glass, filled it with Hershey's choc syrup and skin milk, took a plain old spoon out and stirred that baby.. without a care how hard or rigorous I stirred against the crystal..till there were a smooth distribution of the chocolate syrup.

And then I toasted my dear late husband... and whispered.. why didn't we use the good crystal more often sweetheart!

  1. This is so true Barb. I recommend using the good crystal, using the silver...all of it.

I was the same way...and I couldn't understand why. I started drinking out of the crystal goblets...just because. I threw away all the trash silverware and began to use the real silver daily.

It really puts everything in perspective.

When I take a drink tonight I will toast you wonderful husband as well.

    Love ya!!

  4. You know I agree. And fill it with the good wine. And put the good dishes in the dishwasher. Tonight I'll pull out my Waterford too. But I don't like choc milk so will find another liquid.

  6. I inherited some beautiful china from my Mom and Dad. I didn't even know they had it. They never used it. And now I haven't used it. I am going to start using it on a regular basis. It's so pretty and all different patterns that was given to her by her grand mother when she was younger. All made in England. What a shame it's never been used all these years.

  8. LOVE IT! And you are so right. I feel the same about jewelry. People buy it and then put it away for special occassions. I say WEAR IT and LOVE IT. Celebrate life!

  10. I don't have good crystal or silver... but I do have unused "Collectibles"... that we are afraid to use for fear of breaking them. I learned during these last few months that I had way too much stuff and cleared it all out. Now I live more simply, and I don't miss it. I am going to remind myself again by doing as Beth says... Wear the good jewelry and the formal wear out to dinner at TGIFridays... LOL Celebrate Life! I am so glad you drank out of the cup of life! XOXO *M*
